Fuoco Matto

After arriving in Florence we were a bit hungry, and noticed that next door there was a pizza place names Fuoco Matto. It was also recommended to us by the hotel concierge, but little did we know what we were getting into.

We walked in and were greeted by the friendliest staff I have seen in a restaurant in Italy, so far. As we walked in, we could see their pizza oven hard at work in view of the front entrance, the chefs hard at work. We were seated quickly and soon found bread, wine, and a caprese salad flatbread in front of us as part of the very minimal cover charge.

Being lunch time we all ordered pizzas, soon to be the best pizza and biggest talking point of the trip. The pizzas were cooked perfectly. Perfect cheese, perfect sauce, and awesome prices. Our waiter, Alberto, was always smiling and joked with us as he brought fresh vegetables to the kitchen from the front of the restaurant. At the end of the meal we were given glasses of limoncello, the restaurants own brand, which was the best limoncello I have ever had.

Two days later we found ourselves looking for a place to eat, with only one place on our mind. Fuoco Matto. We arrived and found the restaurant filled and were seated within minutes at a unique center table with a glass top, allowing us to see a wide assortment of pasta under the glass. Once again Alberto was our waiter and we ordered a large mix of food from the kitchen, as well as a few different pizzas.

With every dish we tried, I am sure we fell in love even more. From a pistachio and cheese rice to pizza and pasta, we were astonished by the amazing foods, the awesome flavors, and the good times that you could have at such a nice restaurant. We ordered a mix of deserts and found each one to be even better than the last, with my favorite being the fruit tart. The night ended with a pink strawberry liqueur drink that was to die for, and sadly they had no bottles for us to buy and bring home, as well as some of their great limoncello, which we did buy a bottle to bring home.

If you are ever in the area, I encourage you to check out, eat at, and fall in love with Fuoco Matto.
